The encapsulation cleaning method utilizes specialty polymers and surfactants to loosen and encapsulate soil. The solution is applied to carpet, then machine agitated with cylindrical brushes that lift pile and bring soil to the surface. The encapsulation product dries to form brittle crystals that are easily removed with routine vacuuming. While encapsulation cleaning products are water based, the process is often referred to as dry cleaning because very little water is used. The chemistry of these products has improved over the last few years and the process delivers excellent results. Encapsulation is classified as maintenance cleaning while hot water extraction is restorative cleaning.
